Some colourful days in Jaipur

(Jaipur, India, 1-3rd of March)

We spent some fantastic days in the big buzzling city of Jaipur. This city is mostly known as “the pink city” – as many of the houses in the old part of the city are pink.

The hotel we had booked was situated in the old town, near all the main attractions. But as we had been in Jaipur one year ago sightseeing was not high up on our todo list. Instead we planned to celebrate the colour festival Holi and to visit one company we picked out at the fair in Delhi.

Holi was great fun. The Holi is a festival during one day every year. All people gather in the streets. When you meet somebody you put colour powder in their face, get some powder back in your face , give each other a hug and say “Happy Holi”.

A very friendly festival! The hotel we vere staying at warned tourists of going out in the streets during Holi and some hotels arrange special “Tourist Holi festivals” where you can enjoy Holi in a safe way. This was not for us, we just walked up and down the streets celebrating Holi with all the people we met. We also had the opportunity to dance with the locals and they and we shot a lot of “selfies”.

In Jaipur we visited the coolest Barbecue restaurant ever. We were the only tourists at this place and got excellent service.

At the restaurant you had to start with choosing a vegetarian or a non vegetarian menu. Then you got a barbecue directly on your table and the servants came in with skewers filled with meet and vegetables. It was fantastic – so tasty – and the BBQ was only the starters.

For main course we could choose traditional Indian meals from a buffet. As dessert we could choose from a variation of sweets and they also made us try their home made Kulfi ice cream.

When we were about to leave the servants wanted to show us the kitchen. No one else of the guests in the restaurant had been asked to visit the kitchen but we followed the guys in there. In the kitchen we found out what the purpose was – it was not about showing us the kitchen, it was selfie time with the exotic tourists from Sweden!

One afternoon Moa and I went away to visit a jeweller we met at the fair in Dehli. This  is the entrance to the address we were looking for (it took us around half an hour longer than planned to find it) and yes it was dark and a bit scary. Once there we took a tiny (also really dark) staircase two floors up and finally we found our destination.

We bought some beautiful jewellery!
